Arthur Mumphrey was born on March 30, 1935, to the late Milam Mumphrey and Ledora Greenleaf Mumphrey, in Kilgore, Texas. He was raised by his father, Milam, along with his stepmother, "Mother", Ada Lee Watts Mumphrey.
Arthur was called by the Lord at an early age and was a member of County Line Church of the Living God, in Kilgore, Texas, until his death. He served as Elder, Superintendent of Sunday School, Chairman of the Deacon Board, and he was a passionate choir member. He loved the scriptures and devoted his life to teaching and expounding God's word to all he met.
Arthur attended North Chapel school through eighth grade. Although Arthur never received a high school diploma, he was known as a scholar and professor to all who knew him.
He was a steel worker and worked at East Texas Steel Casting and later at Southwest Steel Casting in Longview, Texas. He was a member of the Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics & Allied Workers Union until his death.
Arthur was united in matrimony to Cleo Williams on September 13, 1959, to this union seven children were born.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Cleo Mumphrey; father, Milam Mumphrey; mother, Ledora Greenleaf Mumphrey; stepmother, Ada Lee Watts Mumphrey; brothers, Joe Lewis Mumphrey Jr., Willie L. Mumphrey, and Mac D. Mumphrey; and sisters, Verdell Tryon and Eloise Mumphrey.
He leaves to cherish his memories four daughters, Jean Mumphrey of Longview, Texas, Barbara Mumphrey of Dallas, Texas, Diane (Rochaun) Hawkins of Longview, Texas, and Natashia Russell of Kilgore, Texas; three sons, Alonzo Mumphrey and Arthur L. Mumphrey Jr. both of Kilgore, Texas, and Kevin (Zhenya) Mumphrey of Boca Raton, Florida; ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Margaret Buard and Irish Gail Williams of Dallas, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews.
