Carrie Myers Obituary

Carrie Lee Myers was born on May 17, 1942, in New Roads, Louisiana, to the late George and Erma Williams. She accepted Christ at an early age in her hometown, a foundation of faith that would guide her throughout her life. She later earned her G.E.D. in Houston, Texas, demonstrating her determination and commitment to personal growth.

Carrie met the love of her life, the late James Leo Myers, and together they built a life filled with love and devotion. Their union was blessed with seven children: Barbara Myers Coby, James Myers Jr., Lena Bartley, Renee Myers, Stacey Myers Shepherd, Marcus Myers, and one beloved daughter who preceded her in death.

A devoted wife and mother, Carrie worked for many years as a health care provider, among other roles, before retiring. When her husband’s health began to decline, she selflessly became his caregiver, embodying the compassion and strength that defined her life.

Carrie was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; five brothers; her husband of 37 years, James; one daughter; and one grandson. Despite these losses, she remained resilient, holding her family close and continuing to be a source of strength and love.

She had a zest for life and found joy in simple pleasures. Carrie loved cooking for her family, watching her favorite TV shows, and, most of all, spending time at the penny slot machines—one of her favorite pastimes.

In her later years, following surgery, Carrie faced serious health challenges. Despite her declining health, she continued to fight bravely, uplifted by the constant love and support of her children and grandchildren.

Carrie leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Barbara Myers Coby (James), Stacey Myers Shepherd (Kelvin), and Renee Myers, all of Longview, Texas, and Lena Bartley of Indianapolis, Indiana; two sons: James Myers Jr. (Shasta) of Longview, Texas, and Marcus Myers (Rochele) of Oklahoma; three sisters, Martha King of New Road, Louisiana, Earnest Willams of Longview, Texas, and Eula Willams of Longview, Texas; one brother, George Williams of New Road, Louisiana; an extended daughter, Chiquita Brooks; extended sisters, Shirley Andrews, Phyllis Burns, and Fay Osborne; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Her legacy of love, perseverance, and faith will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
