Master Cleophus Stinson
A Great Athlete
Cleophus Stinson was born on November 11, 1936, to the late Olige Hayes Stinson and Ola Mae Pittman Stinson in Longview, Texas. He was the seventh of eleven children. He accepted Christ at an early age. Cleophus was a member of Pleasant Hill CME Church in Longview, TX. and Dallas United Methodist Church in Dallas, TX.
He was an excellent basketball and baseball player. Cleophus worked for Santa Fe Railroad and Yellow Freight Trucking Company, until he retired. He met the love of his life, Dorothy Patterson, while working in Tucson, AZ. Mr. Stinson later moved to Dallas, TX. They had been married for 55 years.
He is survived by his sister Arnesia Stinson Wilson, of Tyler, TX.; one daughter, Shelia Brown Hicks, two stepdaughters, Linda McCoy, Charlotte Frazier and one stepson, Kenneth Stinson, all of Dallas, TX.
Cleophus was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Maureen Cole, John Stinson, Sr., Ernest Stinson, Willie Lee Stinson, Douglas Charles Stinson, Grady Alvin Stinson, Sr., Dr. Bobby Joe Stinson, Ola Mae Allen, and Dorothy Nelson.
Loving memories will be cherished by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
