Gregory “Greg” Lamont Benton, 70, passed away Friday May 27, 2022, at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans.
Greg was born January 14, 1952, to Frank and Birdie Benton in Marshall, Texas.
He graduated from Pine Tree High School and entered the Job Corp; acquiring welding and culinary skills. He was lead man at Stemco for 25 years and later was called into full-time ministry. Greg was ordained at Rolling Hills East Texas Christian Church, in White Oak, Texas, where he, and LaSharon, served in an assistant pastoral role. He and LaSharon founded Luke 4:18 Ministries and were later commissioned by Glory of Zion International in 2009. Greg's ministry spanned over 4 decades and throughout the United States.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Birdie Benton; brother, Karan Benton; sister, Terry Benton Williams; and his son, Marcial Dorando Benton.
He is survived by his wife, LaSharon Caldwell Benton; daughters, Angela Tishay Benton and Gabrielle LaShay (Erik) Benton Teegardin; son, Joseph Lamont Benton; grandchildren, Summer, Jacob(Britney), Dylan, and Daylon; sister, Debbie Benton Williams; brothers, Tyrone, Marcell (Larose), Victor, and Vince; brother in laws, Hodges (Lynn) Caldwell, Terry (Natalie) Caldwell, and Elzie Williams; sister in law, Ninette (Brian) Caldwell; and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, friends and coworkers in the ministry.
Greg was an avid history fan, loved Gunsmoke and John Wayne movies, and the Texas Longhorns.
He loved and supported the Jewish people; to give in his honor on his behalf, donations can be made to International Federation of Christians and Jews.
