Gladys Mayo Obituary

Ms. Gladys Mayo was born, in Scottsville, TX, on August 15th, 1930, to Mr. John Alexander and Mrs. Rachel King Alexander.

Sister Mayo is preceded in death by her mother and father, four sisters, Mrs. Johnnie Faye Allen, Mrs. Minnie L. Jaques, Mrs. Mary Florence and Mrs. Ruth Turner; five brothers, Mr. Floyd Alexander, Mr. Ray A. Alexander, Mr. Smith Alexander, Mr. Jack Alexander, and Mr. Perry Alexander; and one son, Mr. Howard Alexander.

She attended Village Creek Schools in Scottsville, Tx. 

At an early age she accepted Christ into her life and was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church. After moving to Longview, Texas, she was later united with Jerusalem Baptist Church; where she was a long-time member, until transitioning from her earthly life on September 30th, 2021. During her time on earth she enjoyed fishing, cooking to nurture the souls of others, and most importantly instilling into others what it meant to be a faithful servant of the Lord.

She leaves to rejoice in her memory three sisters, Mrs. Luberta Pittman, Mrs. Angie Mae Davis, both of Longview, Texas, and Ms. Eula D. Alexander of Marshall, TX.; ten children, Mrs. Gloria Pierce Guy, Mrs. Barbara Ann Johnson, Mr. Wilbert (Jean) Alexander, Mr. Kindell Alexander, Mrs. Shirley (Kevin) Harris, Mr. Bobby Alexander, Mr. Billy Alexander, Mr. Lawrence Alexander, Mr. Rickey Alexander, and Mr. Stacey (Shemece) Mayo; twenty-six grandchildren, forty-three great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
