Life Reflections
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Matthew 5:4
Our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend has fought a good fight. Glenn Milton Brooks, known to some as Buck, and to others as Cowboy, was born on May 14, 1940, in Marshall, Texas to Joe E. Brooks and Clydie Windom Brooks. He was the youngest of three children. At the early age of 4, his family relocated to Longview, where he was educated and graduated from Longview Colored High. He grew up at East Cotton Street Church of Christ and loved the church. He later studied at Prairie View A&M University.
In 1960 he met the love of his life, Mammie Lois Crain. Later, Glenn enlisted in the army in February of 1961 and married Mammie in May of 1961. To this union three children were born, Candie C. Brooks, James E. Brooks Sr., and Velvet K. Brooks. After his service in the military, Glenn, his wife, and son migrated to California in 1964, where he became a CDL Driver. After moving back to Longview in 1974, he went into business with his father before starting his own business, Glenn Brooks Construction. After his health decline, he retired his business and began driving the school bus for Longview ISD until his retirement in 2011.
Glenn was adventurous, a hard worker, a great provider, and a present father. He provided many opportunities for his kids to have different experiences such as camping, swimming, and traveling. His hobby in California was riding motorcycles until moving back to Texas where he developed a strong love for horses. Glenn loved his horses and enjoyed competing with his friends. He shared his knowledge and love for horses with his grandchildren who developed their own love for horses. Glenn also loved music, dancing with his beautiful wife, and playing dominoes. He enjoyed barbequing for his family and friends and was a Pitmaster as he made the BEST BBQ. Glenn loved laughing and was known for being witty.
Glenn is preceded in death by his father and mother, Joe E. Brooks and Clydie Windom Brooks; daughter, Candie Brooks; granddaughter, Silke Brooks; and sister, Dorothy Lee.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife of 63 years, Mammie; stepmother, Robbie Brooks; children, James Brooks Sr. (Regina) and Velvet Brooks; grandchildren, Afton “Shay” Brown (Thurman) and James Brooks Jr.; great grandchild, Avenue Brooks; bonus children and grandchildren, Monique Wells, Chase Wells, Macorian Dawkins, Chase Jr., Kemerie, Jace, Harlym, and Lay Lay; sister, Virginia Alexander; lifelong friend, Carl Boyd, Sr.; as well as his wife’s family, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
