Grace Evelyn (Cattledge) Green

Grace Evelyn Cattledge Green, was born on February 3, 1933, to Tommy and Gerlean Cattledge in Houston, Mississippi. She was the second born of nine children.

     Grace accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. As a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

She was active in the Mission Society and  the  Sunday School  Dept. Later she joined New Community Baptist Church, where she served on the Mothers’ Board, Sunday school teacher and also taught Vacation Bible School.

Her professional career included, Secondary education teacher for five years in the Chicago School System and Elementary education for 28 years in the Hammond School System.

Mrs. Green was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, INC.  Grace earned a BS degree in Education from St. Joseph College and a Master’s degree in Education from Purdue University.

      Grace was united in holy matrimony to Walter Melvin Green Sr. on December 27, 1953.  To this union 3 children were born Carolyn, Walter Jr. and Donald.

     Grace was preceded in death by her beloved husband Walter, her parents Tommy and Gerlean Cattledge, sister Chaney, and brothers, Preston, Howard, OD and Avery.

     She leaves to cherish her precious memories, three children, Carolyn (Carl-deceased) Jones of Lewisville, TX, Walter (Rena) Green Jr. of Indianapolis, IN and Donald (Renee) Green of Newport News, VA; three sisters, Mae Frances (Ernest Sr.) Hopson of Hammond, IN, Rosie (Ervin-deceased) Petty of Chicago, IL and Doris Johnson of Gary, IN; four grandchildren, Kyshone (Dennis) Moss of Lewisville, TX, Preston Dunham of Gary, IN, Alysha and Alexis Green of Newport News, VA; four great grandchildren, Dantrell, Dianta and Dennis III Moss of Lewisville, TX and Kylie Dunham of Portage, IN; two Sister in laws, Dorothy Motley of Springfield, IL and Frances Cattledge of Reynoldsburg, Ohio and host of other relatives, church family and friends.
