Griffin McCoy Jr. Obituary

Griffin “Mack” McCoy, Jr., the youngest of four children, was born on November 15, 1935, in Henderson, Texas, to Griffin McCoy, Sr. and Limmie Lee Howard McCoy.

Griffin dedicated much of his life to serving others with care and compassion. He spent his recent years residing at the Servant Facility in Burbank, California. At an early age, he accepted Christ and became an active and proud usher at Fredonia Baptist Church in the Oak Hill community of Henderson, Texas. A proud Navy veteran, Griffin had a diverse and accomplished career, which included serving as a retired plant manager for the Los Angeles Unified School District, working as a steelworker in Texas, and later as a real estate agent and landlord.

He was passionate about his hobbies, including bowling, watching sports, playing dominoes, and following The Young & The Restless. One of his favorite places was 6612 Greenspan, Dallas, Texas. He was deeply appreciated at the Servant Caring Facility, and he will be fondly remembered by those who knew him there.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Griffin, Sr. and Limmie McCoy; his stepmother, Mary McCoy; his brothers, Blen McCoy and Waymond McCoy; his sister-in-law, Artist Faye McCoy; his stepbrothers Robert Reese, John L. Reese, and Charles Reese; stepsisters, Annie Harvey, Jo Anne Reese, and Clementine Reese Rusk; and his brother-in-law, Pastor Alvin Brown.

Griffin leaves behind to cherish his memory his two daughters, Yolanda Gates (Harold) and Yvonne Guess; his granddaughters, Joslin Gates and Desiree Turner; his sisters, Merlene Thompson, Joyce McCoy Brown, Frances (Rev. James Anderson) Anderson, and Vera McCoy Stinson (ex-brother-in-law, Darryl Stinson); stepbrother, Jessie Reese (Debra K. Reese); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was once married to LaVern Brooks, with whom he later divorced. Griffin’s legacy of kindness, positivity, and dedication to his loved ones will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
