James Alvin Hooper, son of the late Leslie and Marion Hooper, was born on April 7, 1945. His grandparents were the late John L. and Lillie Ryder Chatman. James was married to Christine Hooper and to this union two sons were born, Patrick Hooper and Ronald Hooper.
James graduated Galilee High School, in Hallsville, Texas, and was an active member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church for many years until his health failed him. Mr. Hooper served in The United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran.
Mr. Hooper was formerly employed with TXU Energy for 35 years before retiring. He was a pillar of the community and various counties. James' love for horses afforded him the joy to start rodeoing in 1980; he joined and hosted numerous Rodeos throughout various counties.
James was preceded in death by his aunt, Vauline Fisher of Dallas, Texas. He leaves to cherish his memory Christine Hooper; two children, Patrick Hooper (April) and Ronald Hooper; five grandchildren, Hannah, Hayley, Jayla, Avery, and Cash; five first cousins, Bobbye Sanders (Willie), Shirley Fisher, Joyce Fisher, Royce Fisher, and Karen Fisher; and a host of relatives and friends.
Afterglow: I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave behind when day is done.
