Josephine "Fina" (McCrary) Simmons

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Josephine (“Fina”) McCrary Simmons, who peacefully left this world at home after a brave battle with Multiple System Atrophy.

Fina was born on March 13, 1948, on the island of Malta, Europe, to Carmen and Charles Grima, a country that remained forever near and dear to her heart. At just three years old, her family emigrated to the United States, settling in San Francisco, California.

She is predeceased by her beloved parents, her sister Helen, and her devoted husband, Dan. She is survived by her loving children, Buffy (Dave) and Zak (Michelle); her cherished grandchildren, Lindsay, Roger (Shelby), and David Jr.; her brother Mike (Lori); as well as many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.

Fina grew up in the Bayview district of San Francisco and graduated from St. Vincent’s High School. Over the years, she lived in San Diego and Denver, eventually settling in Santa Rosa, California, where she raised her children and enjoyed a fulfilling career at Exchange Bank.

In retirement, Fina and Dan found joy in their home in Sagle, Idaho, and in traveling the U.S. together in their RV, living a life full of adventure and love. After Dan’s passing in 2020, Fina moved to Texas to live with her daughter and son-in-law.

Fina will be remembered for her warm smile, compassionate spirit, and her ability to make everyone around her feel loved and accepted. The world has lost an incredibly special woman, but heaven has gained a beautiful angel.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to her dedicated caregivers, Julia and Tamisha, and to the kind staff at Heart to Heart Hospice for their compassion and support.

An intimate family gathering will be held at a later date to honor Fina’s life.
