Kelvin Brewster Obituary

Kelvin L Brewster of San Francisco, California affectionately known as “KB” passed peacefully in his home on January 6, 2021.  He was born July 6, 1955 the sixth of seven children to the parentage of George W and Dorothy M James Brewster in Marshall, Texas. Kelvin accepted Christ early in life and was baptized by Rev Ulysses Sydney Cornelius at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Marshall.  He attended schools in Marshall and graduated from Marshall High School in 1973.  After graduation Kelvin enrolled in Houston Community College and later joined the United States Army where he received an honorable discharge.

Kelvin decided to make Houston, Texas his home.  Having an entrepreneurial spirt modeled by his grandfather, Nathaniel James; his parents, George and Dorothy Brewster; and oldest brother George A. Brewster, Sr.  Kelvin created, owned, and operated KB Trucking Company in Houston, Texas.  He retired after 20 years from the trucking industry and lived in San Francisco until his death.

There are many memories and favorite stories that can be associated with KB.  He learned to appreciate nature and farming at a very young age. Many can remember how he and his brother George learned how to drive a tractor at 8 years old; how he learned to drive a truck and car at an early age; how he was proud to be a member of the Cub Scouts and Boys Scouts of America; proud member of Future Farmers of America (FFA); loved to travel to Dallas for the FFA Conventions; how he could not wait until Wednesday evening where he went to the Scout meetings at Jerusalem Baptist Church; his impeccable wisdom of remembering and telling and re-telling stories most of us forgot; how he loved to make people laugh; and how he would travel from city to city visiting relatives and finding relatives many of us did not know existed; loved to barbeque and have family cook-outs.  So, a question is posed “What is your fondest memory of KB”?

Kelvin did not have any biological children of his own, however, he was uncle to all beloved nieces and nephews. His loving parents, sister Eddye B Brewster and brother George Alston Brewster Sr., grandparents Elijah Jr. and Mary Ella Parchman Brewster; and Nathaniel and Elizabeth Daniels James preceded him in death. He leaves four sisters to remember him as a faithful child of God.  They are Marilyn Morris (Harold) of Longview, Texas; Lois Jordan (Robert) of DeSoto, Texas; Dr. Sondra Samuels (Gary) of Kansas City, KS; and Delinda Brewster of Rowlett, Texas; one sister-in-law Ella Regina Brewster of Newark, CA.; and special niece Audrey Riser of Cedar Hill, Texas.

Others to mourn his passing are nieces, Yolanda Davis, Dr. Dakeya Jordan, Nyshicka Jordan, Lisa Harris (Greg), Christi Samuels (Curtis), LaShonda Portley (Milton, II), Valinda Brewster, Brittany Byrd, and Breanisha Byrd. Nephews, Harold Morris Jr. (Rev Nakmous), Shannon Morris, Michael Brewster (Tamika), Jamarius Byrd (Shaquinn), George A Brewster, Jr, nine grandnieces, and seven grand nephews.

He loved Texas immensely.  Kelvin will be greatly missed by his family, close associates, and friends.  However, we know that God gained another flower in his garden and KB is in great arms surrounded by family members and friends.
