Life Epitome
Hearts overflowed with joy on April 16, 1946, at the birth of Marilyn Gale Brewster in Marshall, Texas. She was the second of seven children born to the late George and Dorothy Brewster. She was uniquely gifted with a heart seemingly lined with gold as it continuously overflowed with acts of love. Affectionately referenced as Mrs. Gale, she transitioned from labor to reward on July 27, 2024 embraced by sweet expressions of love, comfort, and reassurances from her cherished family.
Marilyn was a 1964 graduate of Pemberton High School in Marshall, Texas. She was a 1968 graduate of Wiley College where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business. She was a dedicated administrative assistant at Bailey’s Insurance Agency for over 30 years until her retirement. Marilyn worked for Neiman Marcus on a part time basis in the evenings for several years which included many perks and incentives. She successfully transitioned into entrepreneurship after retirement as the owner of Gale’s Beauty Supply in the year of 1985. Marilyn ignited a strong tradition for her family when she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc in 1971.
Marilyn became childhood friends with Harold Morris, Sr. A courtship budded for them as teenagers then their love blossomed into matrimony on June 1, 1968. God blessed their marriage with three beautiful children. Marilyn’s family meant the world to her. As a wife, she worked side by side with Harold in love, harmony, and friendship. As a mother, she worked hard to ensure her children never lacked anything. As a grandmother, she was very attentive to their needs. She did not allow anything to come between her relationship with her husband, children, and grandchildren. As a sister, she was loving and caring and put others before herself. Her favorite thing to do was to spend time with family.
In childhood Marilyn was an active member of Corinth Baptist Church in Marshall, Texas where she played the piano. She and Harold were faithful members of Red Oak Baptist Church in Longview, Texas until her health declined. She served as the church secretary and led the finance committee at the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Longview for 16 years. She was meticulous, organized, and detail oriented. She used these gifts to serve the church in excellence in all tasks assigned to her. Her vibrant and loving personality, spiritual maturity, selflessness, and friendliness will be sorely missed by her church family.
Marilyn will be remembered for her big smile, her vibrant personality, and her generous heart. Throughout her life, she demonstrated a heart for God, a heart for family, a heart for service, a heart for hospitality, a heart for encouraging others, and a heart for doing all things well. Her home was always an open door for fellowship, great food, and Christian counsel. Family, friends, and visitors were consistently and enthusiastically greeted by her at her door with, “Hey, come on in. It’s so good to see you”. She ensured all left her home with a stomach filled with her good cooking and the knowledge that she loved them dearly.
Marilyn was greeted at heaven’s gate by her father, mother, and siblings Eddye Brewster, George Alston Brewster, and Kelvin Brewster.
