Mr. John "Eddie" Newsome Sr. Obituary

Mr. John Edward Newsome Sr, affectionately known as “Eddie”, was born on January 30, 1937, in Gilmer Texas, to the late Grace, and Garland Newsome, of Gilmer, Texas. Eddie was the youngest of two children.

He was educated in Gilmer public schools, and later, honorably served his country, in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1959. His last duty assignment was the 812th Air Police Squadron.

After discharging from the military, he relocated to Brooklyn, New York, where he met, and married his wife of 57 years. Three children were born to this union. The family made the decision to return to his family home of Gilmer, Texas, where he spent the remainder of his life.

Eddie worked as a truck driver, and later became a driving instructor, teaching what he loved to do.  He retired from both, Southland, and Trinity Industries.

Eddie was an active member, and deacon at the Lake Providence Baptist church. Later in life, his family changed membership to East Springfield Baptist Church. He also had the pleasure of teaching at TSTC in Marshall, Texas.

Eddie is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Garland Newsome Jr. .

Eddie leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Carrie Bernice; three children, Deborah, John Jr. (Devlyn), and Nicole (Del); six grandchildren, Toie, Taylor, Johnathan, Johnae, Jonae, Joe’l; and one great-grandson, Jaxon.
