Theo Vernell Green, born on September 15, 1946, in East Texas to Avie and Verneler Green, embarked on his journey through life with remarkable dedication and service. He peacefully passed away on September 28, 2023, leaving a legacy of commitment, love, and selflessness. Theo's early years were marked by a pursuit of knowledge and a thirst for learning. He completed his high school education in East Texas and continued his academic journey at Bishop College. With a deep sense of duty to his country, Theo volunteered to serve during the Vietnam War as a Marine. His unwavering commitment to the military earned him the prestigious Purple Heart, a testament to his bravery and sacrifice. After years of devoted service, he retired from the armed forces, having touched the lives of many through his noble service.
Transitioning into civilian life, Theo embraced a career as a social worker, exemplifying his compassion and dedication to helping others. Later in his professional journey, he joined the United States Postal Service, where he continued to serve faithfully for decades until his well-deserved retirement.
In matters of the heart, Theo's life was a tapestry of love and family. He married Nettie Rose Watson, and together they were blessed with three children: Christopher Green of Houston, Texas, Upendo Green of Dallas, Texas, and Ameerah Green -(Saine) of Plano, Texas. While his marital path took different turns, Theo's belief in family remained unwavering.
In his later years, Theo found happiness and companionship with Herquita Johnson, and together, they welcomed two sons into the world: Tahir Green and Bahir Green, both of Houston, Texas. He enjoyed reading, sharp shooting and never missed an opportunity to play pool with the people he cared for. Theo's devotion to his family knew no bounds, and his role as a father brought him immeasurable joy. His three grandchildren, Ahmir Green, Ayden Green, and Denver Saine held a special place in his heart, and he cherished them.
Theo Green was preceded in death by his parents, Avie and Verneler Green, as well as his siblings, Mae Cox, Dorthy Bell Spencer, Verneler Green Jr., and Lewis Jackson. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Herquita Green; children, sister, Velma Jackson of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, and a host of cousins and family members who continue to carry his legacy forward.
Theo Vernell Green's life was a testament to service, love, and family. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
