THE LIFE REFLECTIONS
Velma Jewel Crockett-Brooks, known to many as “Doll”, was born on February 19, 1944 in Harleton, Texas, to the late Jessro and Maggie Crockett. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend that carried a light that would touch everyone she met.
Velma’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted member of the Parkview Baptist Church and shared this deep devotion with her family. Her love for the Lord was evident in her service to the Sunday School, the Mission Department, the Music Ministry and the Deaconess Board. Velma’s heart overflowed with kindness, and she lived out her faith in the way she treated others—with compassion, warmth, and a joyful spirit.
Velma graduated with the class of 1963 from H.B. Pemberton Sr. High School in Marshall, Texas and went on to attend and graduate Cosmetology School. She cherished the friendships she made during those years.
In addition to her tenure in the salon, she also dedicated many years to working at Thiokol Chemical Corporation. Here she met the man that she would marry. Velma Crockett was united in Holy Matrimony with Frank Brooks on January 7, 1969. This union blossomed 3 beautiful children, Franklin, Michael and Tomichia.
Family was everything to Velma. Some of her favorite hobbies included sewing and refurbishing home décor with the same care she put into everything she did. Velma was known for her radiant smile, her generous heart, and the way she could light up any room. Her spirit brought joy to all who knew her. She was a woman of deep love, and her legacy of kindness and faith will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
On December 14, 2024, Velma “Doll” Brooks walked into that beautiful light and departed this earthly life. She is now joyfully reunited in Heaven with her parents, her beloved son, Michael Daryl Brooks, and her siblings, Brisk, Dorothy, J.C., Jessie Lee, Noble, Perry and Pinkie.
Here on earth, she leaves behind her devoted husband of almost 56 years, Frank Brooks; her children, Franklin Duane Brooks and Tomichia M. Brooks, along with her 7 treasured grandchildren, and 1 great-granddaughter. Velma is also survived by her dear brother, Richard (Patricia) Crockett of Greenville, Texas. Her love and memory will continue to live on through her cherished nieces, nephews, 2 very special friends, Frankie Barnes and Betty Govance, each of whom carry the love and light she so generously shared with them, as well as many other relatives and dear friends.
Velma’s life was a beautiful reflection of God’s love, and while she will be dearly missed, we find comfort in knowing that she is now at peace in the arms of her Savior.
