Verna Mae Wilson was born on June 28, 1933, in Waldo, Arkansas to Andrew and Ella Ree Snyder. She was preceded in death by both parents, sons, Earlie Thurmond Jr. and Minister Alonzo Thurmond; brothers, Herman, Paul, Harold and Novie Snyder; and sister, Bobbie Snyder.
Mrs. Verna received her education at Westside High School, in Waldo, Arkansas and Pine Bluff College in Arkansas.
She accepted Christ at an early age at Davis Chapel Baptist Church in Arkansas and later united with Light House of Faith Church in Longview, Texas where she served as an usher until her health failed.
Mrs. Verna will be missed by many including her husband, Calvin Wilson, of Longview, Texas; daughter, Jolanda (Paul) Morgan, of Longview, Texas; sons, Michael (Delphine) Thurmond and Minister Alaster (Melinda) Wilson, all of Longview, Texas; sister, Mary Jo Clayton, of Waldo, Arkansas; grandchildren, Edgar (Latecia) Flecher, Tera Flecher, Felix Flecher, Tracy Flecher, Lamesheia Turner, Xavier Thurmond, Christian Portley, Eris Thurmond, Calvin J. Wilson ,Chanel Morgan, Paul Morgan Jr., and KD Vanzdant; daughter in law, Sandra Thurmond; twelve great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, friends, and other family members.
