William Earl Raby

Obituary

William Earl Raby was born on July 20, 1951 to Ethel Merl Raby and Johnny Young in Linden, Alabama.

He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized, then became a member of Hopewell Baptist Church of Linden.

Bill was a 1970 graduate of George P. Austin High School in Linden, Alabama. He attended San Jacinto College in San Jacinto, Texas and Commercial Trades Institute, Chicago, Illinois.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged after 7 1/2 years of service.  Bill also served in the Texas and Alabama Air National Guard units and was honorably discharged. He worked in chemical plants, trucking and finally retired from Bell South/AT&T.

Bill married Mary Alice Phillips on June 24, 1972 and to this union they reared three fine sons: Cedrick, Bruce, and Kevin.

He and Mary attended Word of God Ministries in Shreveport, La.  under the leadership of Pastor James McMenis.

Bill was preceded in death by father Johnny Young; grandparents Tommy Sr. and Carrie Raby, Amelia Tate and George Young; in-laws Dan and Mamie Phillips; brothers Eric and Johnny Young; daughter in law Tametrious Raby and brother in law Kenneth Phillips.

Forever cherishing Bill's memory are his beloved family: mother Ethel Glover; his wife Mary; sons Cedrick [Gaybernell], Bruce, Kevin [Chandrika]; grandchildren Ciddarious, Cedric Jr., Michael, Jayla, Miya, Nicholas, Alana; great=grandchildren Rhyles, Layla, Uriah and Ceriah; sisters Burnette, Eddye Bee [Eugene], Jeanette [Willie], Loretta [Larry]; brothers-in-law Willie [Sharon], Larry [Linda] and Donald Ray; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends and best friends Landry Mathieu and James Alberta.

Bill was a Christian , loving husband and son, nuturing father, beloved brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, and a hard worker. He will be sorely missed.
