Willie Mae (Cooksie) Martin

Willie Mae was born in Jefferson, Texas at Douglas Memorial Hospital on May 29, 1949. She and her mother Alice Mae, then relocated to Dallas, Texas where as a child, she grew love for the city.  In her early childhood years, she anticipated the annual State Fair of Texas and became a loyal and passionate Dallas Cowboy fan. She worked in food service at O.M. Roberts Elementary School and as life went on, she met and married Mr. L.V. Martin.

In separation, Mae moved back to Jefferson for a number of years, although Longview, Texas is where she soon settled and gave her life to Christ. 

In Longview, Mae was employed at Cleaver Nursing Home, Neiman Marcus, and retired from Pinecrest Country Club. She served as an usher of 26 years at Greater Faith Temple, where many loving friendships bloomed. Mae was a dedicated Longview Lobos fan. She loved keeping her hair, nails, and toes done. She loved good soul food, family, football, and occasionally taking the Amtrak train back to Dallas to visit.

With a one of a kind spirit, laugh, and personality, Willie Mae is preceded in transition by her mother Alice, her father, her husband L.V., Dwain Jr, and many other relatives and friends.

Memories of Mae will be kept by her five children, Freda Cooksie Smith, Cassandra Cooksie Johnson, Regina Martin, Christopher Martin and Rodney Martin; eight grandchildren, Keyona Martin, Natasha Jones Smith, Gekendra Jones, Aravia Johnson, Charmiya Johnson, DaQuan Martin, Jasmine Martin, and Chrishara Martin; fourteen great-grandchildren; one aunt, Ruth Peel; and a number of loved ones and neighbors.
